👗 Cosplay & Weapons Policy

⚠️ Failure to follow this policy may result in removal from the convention without refund. This policy applies to all venues hosting Garden State Anime Fest.

Hate Symbols

Hate symbols are not permitted at GSAF, including as part of a cosplay. GSAF will not allow costumes that contain hate symbols or appropriate the symbolism of hate groups — including historical, comic-related, or satirical costumes.

✅ What May Be Allowed

At the discretion of Security on site, the following props may be permitted:

  • Lightweight plastic, metal shields, and foam props.
  • Lightweight plastic/PVC props and lightsabers.
  • Toy guns that do not look real, cannot function or shoot projectiles, and have an orange tip on the barrel. All prop firearm barrels must be covered with brightly colored caps.
  • Prop bows with arrows that have soft foam or cardboard tips only.

❌ What Is Not Allowed

  • Real weapons of any kind.
  • Anything that could maim, damage, or cause bodily harm.
  • Any item deemed unsafe by GSAF Security.

💡 Rule of thumb: If you need to think about whether it's allowed, the chances are it is not.
